Tiger Woods withdraws from PGA Championship, done for year

Tiger Woods will miss the major championship circuit – and the 2016 season – in its entirety.

PGA Championship officials announced Tuesday that the four-time winner and former back-to-back champion has withdrawn from next weekend’s event at Baltusrol.

His agent, Mark Steinberg, later confirmed in an email to GolfChannel.com that Woods won’t attempt a comeback this year, and will instead continue his rehab in an effort to return next season.

Woods has not competed in a golf tournament since his top 10 finish at the Wyndham Championship last August. He underwent two procedures on his ailing back late last year.

Harold Varner III will take his place at Baltusrol, and in the strongest field on the tour calendar.
